A psychiatrist is a medical doctor or a doctor with a medicine degree who has had advanced training in the specialty of psychiatry. A psychiatrist specialises in diagnosing and treating mental disorders and emotional problems primarily using medication. They may also carry out physical examinations, order diagnostic tests like blood tests, electroencephalograms (EEG), and brain scans like MRI, etc. Psychiatry aims to maintain an empathetic and a confidential stance with the patient. A Psychiatrist aims to promote mental health and quality of life, by enabling the individual with better functionality and positive growth. They work in various setups ranging from community mental health development to hospitals and private setups. A large number have continued to promote mental health at the community or societal level in order to prevent mental health and emotional problems.
